If ever there was a time to recommit and reconfirm my dedication and devotion to my new lifestyle, the time is now. This milestone ends 5/21/2008. During this six week period, I will be traveling for work for two full weeks - in a row!! I'll be home for one 36 hour period in-between two one week trips. Two weeks of little to no control over my food options/choices. Two weeks away from my trainer, my routine, my exercise videos, and my gym. Two weeks where every day will be a challenge to get a workout in. I also want to spend time with my family before and after this two week period; which is always another challenge for me. They don't pressure me to eat poorly or too much. It's totally an internal thing. I think I know why it happens but stopping it from happening is completely different. My plan for this weekend with the family: STAY BUSY. Play with Bri, walk the dogs, things like that.
A New Rule
For this milestone - weekly weigh-ins. Once a week on Wednesdays only. I attended a class and one of the talking points referenced a change in the chemicals within your brain when you receive good or bad news. When the news is bad (such as being up a pound in the morning), it changes the chemicals within your mind/body - which can impact not only your attitude but also your desire, urges, and cravings to eat. So, I'm going to give it a try. Let me tell you, it's scary and it's not easy. After 1.85 years of daily weigh ins, it's a challenge every morning to NOT step on the scale. I made it through the first week - stepping on the scale this morning the first time since last Wednesday. There were a couple of days and evenings where the temptation was almost too much to resist. My foot hovering over the scale while I waged and internal battle. To weigh or not to weigh, that is the question.
New Goal
Based on my dragging progress, and the numbers given to me by my RD in January, I am upping my daily caloric intake to 1,600 calories (from 1,500). With the amount and intensity of exercising that I do, I wonder if my weight loss has stagnated because of a LACK of calories. What a radical idea. Eat more to lose more? Let's see if it works. It's only 100 calories a day. The worst that can happen is that I lose weight more slowly. It's not enough to make me gain weight, that's for sure. We shall see. I'm adding 100 calories and having them all come from protein.
Reporting in after one week, the new rule and the new goal may have contributed to progress. A pound is a pound and at this stage (6.6 pounds to go), every pound lost is precious.
This week:
-1 pound for the week
-1 pound for the milestone
-101.4 pounds in total.
I missed my exercise goal by 30 minutes; logging 315 minutes over 5 days. I missed my workout on Sunday because I was too tired (3 hours of sleep, only) and it was a MUCH better use of my time to spend the day with a friend who is visiting from out of town. It was a wonderful day and worth it in every way.
Until later . . .
Think Smart. Eat Well. Move More.
