MS 6: Week 3 Check-In

Let me retell an embarrassing but funny moment. After having dinner with a friend last night, I stopped at the fitness center on my way home. I brought my workout clothes with me and was wearing my work clothes. I had a good workout, even considering it was either warm and/or humid in there. It seriously was the sweatiest I've ever gotten from a workout. Even though I don't like it, I'm used to having my face, neck, and chest getting sweaty. Last night, everything was sweating; my forearms and the tops of my hands were sweating, for crying out loud. That's just way sweaty. Too sweaty. I do my cool down and stretches.

Then, I realize that I have a small issue. I was wearing my workout cloths (Capri type pants) and I had brought a sweatshirt to wear home. I was wearing my workout shoes, which I only wear indoors (to keep them clean for at home and indoor exercising). My only other shoe option was my black work shoes (with a 2-inch heal). So, I had two choices, 3 if I'm brave. I could change back into my work clothes, complete with the black shoes, wear my workout shoes home, or maybe, just maybe, I could sneak out in my workout clothes and slip on my work shoes.

Based on how sweaty I still am, I don't want to change back into my work clothes. So, I linger a bit till no one is near. I slip into my work shoes. Wow, this is a great look. Anyone who knows me well knows how much I dislike white socks and black shoes together. Here, I'm garbed in black Capri "yoga" pants, a faded green sweatshirt, white ankle socks, black 2-inch heals, and producing enough sweat to run a small mill. I grab my gym bag and my coat and make a run for the door. I turn the corner and about run into a guy. He stops short and just looks at me. I turn eight shades of red. And, if possible, I might have started sweating more. He says "Am I in your way?". I reply, "only in that I was trying to sneak out without anyone seeing this really excellent look I have going on. I forgot to bring shoes to get home in". He gives me the once over and just gives me this goofy grin -- I can totally tell he's trying not to laugh. I duck my head, shuffle aside and go for the door. He chuckles and replies, "Have a good night". Innocent, I know. It's better to have worked out and gone home in an awful state than to not have worked out. So, I guess it was worth it but, oh my, was I embarrassed. That guy is probably still laughing. I don't have these issues when I work out at home!

Note to self. It takes three pairs of shoes to get from work, to the gym, to home; unless I'm willing to change back into my work clothes to go 3 blocks in my car.

This week, I made my total exercise goal in minutes (300 actual, 270 goal). However, I was one short on lifting days, making up for it with a cardio day. I usually lift on either Friday or Saturday. But, I was at my sisters Friday and most of Saturday, then went to the Wild game Saturday night. I didn't get home till 11:45 pm. No chance to lift. But, I did get cardio in at my sisters Saturday morning. Seems like a good compromise to me. On Sunday, I lifted at the fitness center and it was a very good workout. I went in the middle of the day and there was hardly any one else there. It was great. The only down side (way small) was trying to coordinate lifting while wearing my iPod. I was constantly moving the cord or moving where the iPod was (e.g. on my side or my back). They have this piped in music that is very diverse. About 50% of it I like. The rest is crap, in my opinion. And, it wasn't really loud enough. So, iPod it was. Maybe after more experience with that I'll either figure out what works best or just get used to moving it around. I didn't really slow me down. I got all my sets and reps done in the normal amount of time. Just something I need to get used to, I guess.

My numbers for this week are pretty good. I'm at -1.4 for the week, -7.4 for the milestone, and -45.4 total. Not too bad. I've made my 7 pound goal for this milestone. As Renee would say, "anything from here is a bonus". So, let's see if I can get some more bonus points during the next week and the last two weeks of this milestone. Until later. . .

Think Smart. Eat Well. Move More.
