MS 5: Week 6 Check-In

As I expected in my last post, I missed my 7 pound goal for Milestone 5 by half a pound. Not terrible, I know, but still disappointing when I had passed the 7 pound mark about 2.5-3 weeks ago. The plateau and the New Year's holiday crushed my hopes of passing the 7 pound mark and striving for a 10 pound goal. My official numbers for this final week were +1.8 for the week, -6.5 for this milestone, and -38 total. Looking back over the 5 six-week milestones, my average weight loss is 7.6 pounds. The largest weight loss was 10 pounds (MS 3) and the lowest was -6 (MS4).

So, I guess I'm not too far off average, especially considering that I've added weight training. Since the amount of weights I'm lifting has increased twice over the past 7 weeks, I have to believe I've gained some muscle weight. Some weights have small(er) increases (like shoulders and biceps) but others are significant, to me anyway (back and chest have doubled). Who would have ever guessed that I'd be "good" at push-ups. I started off struggling through two sets of 15 from my knees. Now, I do about the first 5 of each set (depending on how intensive other chest exercises are) from my TOES and the last 10 or more from my knees. I don't think I've ever done push-ups from my toes before. I am making good progress. The measurements last week may not prove it but I feel stronger and I can do things now that I couldn't do before. I can't say I like lifting but I can say I don't hate it. I do like the results. Those are both good things. I thought I'd hate it, forever.

So, for Milestone 6, I will keep the same goals that I had for MS5. 7 pounds and 270 minutes of exercise per week.

For today (day one of MS6) I'm down -1.8. I'm almost back to my one-day low of -40.2. I'm at -39.8 (again). I think I drank about a gallon of water yesterday. I think/hope that helped flush some of the vast quantities of salt from the weekend from my body. I'm back on the path and I'll show good numbers this week. Until later. . .

Think Smart. Eat Well. Move More.

I'm so glad you don't hate it any more! Diligent exercise is hard enough, let alone if you hate it. I'm so impressed on the pushups! I was only doing 10 on my knees before I started going to the gym in Dec. Not sure how many I can do now--maybe I should try.

About hitting 40 and then gaining--you know, I think that's our body's way of panicking. I did the same thing at 50. Woo-hoo! Then I spent at least a week back around 48 and 49. It's like your body just freaks out and holds on to water longer than usual. As long as you're doing the right things (and you are) that 40 will be back before you know it--and then some.

There's always one more in you. That's how I got from 0 "toes" push-ups to five. I tried to always do one more.

Good luck reaching 60!
