As I mentioned yesterday, I am 60 minutes - one weight training day - short of my exercise goal. But, I did make it through the entire 45 minutes of step aerobics on the six inch platform. I didn't think I was going to make it. I probably shouldn't have made it. I'm sure my heart rate was higher for a longer period of time than my desired range(s). But, I just wanted to see if I could do it. I could. My knee is a bit sore today. I'm pretty sure it's not from the higher platform but rather from me forgetting and doing jumping jacks during the step routine. I usually skip the jumping jacks (that sideways motion is hell on my knee) and just jump like I'm jumping rope. I was 'in the zone' and didn't even realize I'd been doing the jumping jacks until after I'd done about 6 of them. That was definitely something I shouldn't do.
Getting in the zone is like a catch-22 for me. I like to get in the zone, because then I don't think about the fact that I'm exercising. I just do it. Focus on the steps, the coordination, and the choreography. Focus on keeping my shoulders up/back. Focus on breathing. Focus on making sure the leg lifts are 'strong', controlled and as high as I can make them. However, when I get in the zone, I sometimes forget the modifications (like omitting the jacks) and forget to monitor my heart rate. When I don't get in the zone, about every 2-3 minutes I'm checking to see how much time I have left. I think about how many other things I'd rather be doing.
The repair person is coming out on January 11th to fix my elliptical machine. The resistance stopped working. The machine technically still works but the resistance is stuck at the highest level. Not good. Luckily, I bought the service contract so all it will cost me is the time away from the office to be at home when they come.
Assuming we can find the scale and the tape measure, I should be getting weighed and measured tonight with Renee. I decided that I will buy another package with Renee for personal training. I originally was only going to buy one 10-session package to learn what and how to strength train. However, I really like her. I know she's helping me. And I fear I wouldn't continue lifting if I didn't have her to create the routines, to motivate me, and to keep it interesting. It seems like so much money but I guess my health is worth it.
Until later. . .
